Probably not quite the sight that the corporate day on the River course this morning was looking for as where there's rainbows there's rain but it was pretty spectacular. It was followed up by several more during the day as showers blew in from the ocean followed by breaks of blue sky. A couple of magnificent red skies in the mornings this week as well in what was a topsy turvy week of weather.
Looking back down 6R fairway this morning.
It has certainly been a strange last few weeks on the weather front with some abnormally high overnight and daytime temperatures causing some of the turf surfaces to react very differently. Some of the Couch and Kikuyu is actually seeding in the fairways which normally doesn't happen until well in to September and there appears to be some growth happening in the maintained turf areas on the courses. We even got a little bit of scalping on some of the fairways while mowing them this week which is also most unusual. Soil temperatures are still down which is what really generates the growth.
The Vets week of golf is on next week and hopefully they will do what they normally do and leave the courses in better shape than they found them in. One of the challenges we have is working productively in amongst play at any time and with virtually four double shotguns plus the normal members competitions, next week is one of the most difficult. One of the tasks we will undertake next week is replacing the bedknives and grinding the reels on the fairway mowers which is a huge undertaking given their size and weight so that will keep quite a few of the boys occupied in the shed.
